Invisalign FAQs

By Ann R. Sielicki, DDS on January 26, 2018

Invisalign FAQsInvisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that offers patients the opportunity to straighten their teeth without the use of bulky, conspicuous metal braces. If you are like thousands of patients who desire a straighter and more uniform smile, Dr. Ann Sielicki and the team at Sonoran Dental Design would be pleased to speak to you about Invisalign. In the meantime, you can learn the answers to the most frequently asked questions about the treatment in this blog post.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign uses a series of clear, removable aligners that gradually shift teeth into proper alignment. The aligners are custom-made to match the unique specifications of your teeth and mouth. Each set is worn for about two weeks and then swapped for the next pair that will work to shift the teeth into the next desired position. Depending on the severity of the case, treatment with Invisalign can last several months to a year.

Can Invisalign treat all orthodontic issues?

Invisalign is best for treating mild to moderate misalignment and orthodontic issues. Severe cases may require braces or another orthodontic treatment.

Are the aligners noticeable?

Thanks to their clear design, the Invisalign aligners will be barely noticeable in your mouth. The aligners are custom-made to slip over your teeth so they will conform to the shape and size of your teeth.

Does treatment hurt?

Treatment with Invisalign does not hurt. The aligners will fit snugly over the teeth without irritating the gums. However, you may experience some slight pressure or sensitivity during the first few days of wearing a new set of aligners. This is normal and a sign that your teeth are shifting to the desired position.

How often will I need to wear my aligners?

Each set of aligners must be worn for 20 to 22 hours a day. You should only remove your aligners for eating, brushing, flossing and to clean the aligners.

How do I clean my aligners?

You should clean your aligners once a day by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water.
