Porcelain Veneers in Scottsdale, AZ
Porcelain veneers are a cosmetic treatment that can conceal chipped or otherwise damaged teeth to enhance the appearance of your smile. While there are a variety of treatments to refine your smile, porcelain veneers are often the most natural looking. Dr. Ann Sielicki offers her patients the option of porcelain veneers at her office in Scottsdale, AZ.
What Are Porcelain Veneers?
Porcelain veneers are medical-grade ceramic shells that are attached to the front of your teeth. These restorations can be used to conceal a range of cosmetic blemishes, including:
- Cracks and minor breaks
- Chips in teeth
- Stains that do not respond to whitening
- Minor misalignment
- Small gaps between teeth
Candidates for Treatment
At Sonoran Dental Design in Scottsdale we offer porcelain veneers, a versatile treatment that effectively enhances our patients’ smiles and confidence. You may be a good candidate for porcelain veneers if you:
- Have good periodontal and overall health
- Are committed to proper oral hygiene and care
- Any conditions such as gum disease must be properly treated before placing veneers
- Have specific cosmetic or restorative goals
- Have realistic expectations
- Have a sufficient amount of healthy enamel for treatment
If you do not qualify for veneers, we can recommend other cosmetic procedures that can help you achieve your desired results.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Sielicki will evaluate your oral health and may take X-rays, photos, and dental impressions. She will discuss your cosmetic goals and make recommendations for the type of veneers that may work best for you.
Traditional veneer placement is safe and gentle. These veneers require that a small amount of your enamel be removed; the amount varies based on the individual and the type of veneers. We will then take highly detailed impressions of your teeth. The impressions are sent to a trusted partner lab. Traditional porcelain veneers can take up to two weeks to create, so we will provide temporary veneers to protect your enamel and prevent sensitivity while you wait for your permanent restorations.
Once your veneers are ready, you will return to our office for a second appointment. We will ensure that they fit your smile, preserving your natural bite and alignment. When we are sure that your veneers meet your needs, we will secure them in place. In as few as two appointments, you can walk out of our office with a brighter, enhanced smile.
Porcelain veneers are able to provide significant benefits for patients. Modern porcelain veneers closely resemble your tooth’s enamel, making them look more natural and lifelike than older options. There is no recovery time for porcelain veneers and the veneers can last up to 10 years with proper care. Porcelain veneers can cover minor flaws to create a smooth and even smile. These restorations can also strengthen damaged teeth and eliminate the need for months or years of orthodontics by filling gaps and concealing crooked teeth. In addition, veneers can give patients a whiter, straighter smile and a boost in self-confidence.
How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?
Cost is a very important factor in any decision. The cost of veneers varies by case, based on the material used, the number of teeth being treated, the fees of the cosmetic dentist placing the veneers and the skill of the ceramist or dental laboratory that constructs the veneers.
Dr. Sielicki and our Scottsdale dental team are happy to provide a pricing quote for veneers after meeting you and discussing your specific needs.
Often patients want to know whether dental insurance covers the cost of porcelain veneers. Because veneers are considered a cosmetic (and thus elective) treatment, insurance typically does not cover the cost.
To help patients fit the cost of veneers into their budget, our office offers financing plans through CareCredit.
Frequently Asked Questions about Porcelain Veneers
Are veneers painful to receive?
Having veneers placed is usually not painful. Prior to placing a veneer, Dr. Sielicki numbs the tooth and the surrounding area to prevent any pain or discomfort. There is no recovery time and most patients adjust to the feel of their natural-looking veneers very comfortably.
How do I care for my veneers?
Natural veneers do not require special maintenance. They should be brushed and flossed daily like natural teeth.
High-quality porcelain veneers are strong, but they are not unbreakable. To prevent veneers from chipping or cracking, you should watch what you eat and avoid biting into hard foods or other objects (e.g., ice, pen caps or shells). If you grind or clench your teeth, or if you participate in contact or collision sports, you should be fitted for a mouthguard to protect your veneers.
Will I ever need to replace my veneers?
Porcelain is a very durable material. Properly placed, well-maintained veneers can last for many years. But your veneers will likely need to be replaced at some point. Because your natural tooth is reshaped in order to accommodate a veneer, the tooth will always need to be covered with a restoration (either a veneer or a crown).
Are porcelain veneers covered by insurance?
Dental insurance normally does not cover the cost of porcelain veneers since they are considered an elective cosmetic treatment. Our office offers multiple payment and financing options to help you fit veneers into your budget.
Will I need gum contouring after my veneers?
If you have very short teeth or asymmetrical gum tissue, Dr. Sielicki may recommend gum recontouring to improve your overall aesthetic outcomes.
Can I still get cavities with veneers?
Veneers themselves cannot develop cavities, but the tooth underneath the veneer can. For this reason, Dr. Sielicki recommends you be diligent about your personal oral hygiene routine and limit your consumption of sugary foods.
What happens if a veneer falls off?
If a veneer falls off, Dr. Sielicki can bond it back into place during an office visit. Trying to reattach it yourself is not recommended
How long will veneers last?
Natural-looking veneers normally last 10 years or more.
Do porcelain veneers stain like normal teeth?
No, porcelain veneers do not stain as easily as natural teeth do. Porcelain is not porous like natural tooth enamel.
