Dr. Sielicki Discusses Implant-Supported Dentures

Our dentist describes implant-supported dentures as an amazing option for patients who have lost a complete arch of natural teeth. Depending on your goals and budget, an implant denture can be partial or full, and it can be made of acrylic or zirconia.

How Do Implant-Supported Dentures Work?

A full denture is a complete arch of prosthetic teeth. Partial dentures and dental bridges, on the other hand, are designed to replace a few teeth in a row or address localized tooth loss. Traditionally, dentures are designed with a plastic base that goes over the gums. Patients rely on a combination of suction and denture adhesives to keep the restoration in place. While modern dentures are more reliable than ever before, they are still prone to slipping out of place when patients bite, chew, or speak.

Fortunately, implant dentistry has completely transformed the way that we restore missing teeth. Dental implants are titanium posts that replace natural tooth roots. Titanium implants fuse directly with the jawbone, so they never slip out of place. Once implants have integrated with the bone, Dr. Sielicki can attach a denture to the implants, ensuring that the denture has all of the functionality of natural teeth.

Preparation

Before you can receive dental implants, you will need to undergo treatment for current oral health concerns. Dr. Sielicki will evaluate your oral health and the strength of your jawbone. If necessary, she may recommend you for periodontal treatment or bone grafting before you can proceed with dental implants.

Implant Placement

For dental implant treatment, we partner with some of the best oral surgeons and periodontists in Scottsdale, AZ. During your dental implant surgery, your surgeon will make small incisions in your gums and insert the implants directly into your bone. Some of our partners are able to offer Teeth-in-a-Day, so they'll place a temporary denture during the same procedure.

Healing

After the initial implant surgery, a healing period of three to six months is necessary for the implants to fuse with the bone. This process is known as osseointegration. You will have periodic checkups with Dr. Sielicki in Scottsdale during this time.

Final Restoration

Once the implants are secure in your jaw, you will be ready to receive your permanent denture. Dr. Sielicki can design and place your denture at our office in Scottsdale, AZ. There are different denture materials you can choose from. Dr. Sielicki will explain the pros and cons of all your options so that you can make the right choice for you.

Implant-Supported Denture FAQ

How many implants will I need?

Depending on a variety of factors, including your budget, the strength of your jawbone, and the type of denture you select, you may require as few as four dental implants or as many as eight dental implants to support your restoration.

Will my denture look natural?

Yes! Dr. Sielicki will design your denture very carefully, making sure that it fits securely over your gums and fills out your lips and cheeks. Also, because your implants will keep your jaw full and strong, you won't suffer from the jawbone recession that can make you look older than you really are.

How long will my denture last?

Thanks to advances in modern dentistry, you can expect your denture to last for at least 10 years. A few factors can influence the longevity of your denture, including whether you grind your teeth and whether your denture is removable or fixed. Your implants, meanwhile, could last for the rest of your life.
