Dental Implants Improve Overall Oral Health
Dental implants are biocompatible titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jaw to serve as a foundation for replacement teeth. Because dental implants integrate with the surrounding jawbone, they serve as a strong and durable foundation. With dental implants, replacement teeth will not shift, allowing patients to eat, speak and smile with ease and confidence. Implants can be used in a variety of ways, from a single crown replacing one tooth, to a bridge replacing several teeth, to a fixed denture retained by implant replacing a full arch of missing teeth. Scottsdale dentist Dr. Ann Sielicki of Sonoran Dental Design is a top dental implant specialist who has years of experience helping hundreds of patients restore their smile and oral health with dental implants.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants consist of three parts: a titanium post, a dental restoration and an abutment that connects the two together. The titanium post is placed into the jawbone during a surgical procedure. It takes several months for the jaw to heal and the dental implant to bond with the surrounding bone. During this time, a temporary dental restoration may be placed. Once the implant is ready, the abutment is placed along with a permanent restoration. The restoration is crafted using high-quality materials that mimic the function and appearance of natural teeth.
How Do Dental Implants Improve Oral Health?
Dental implants help prevent a myriad of health issues associated with missing teeth. Filling gaps as a result of missing teeth helps prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting and changes in the bite. Missing teeth cause the jawbone to shrink and deteriorate, which can lead to changes in facial appearance. Placing dental implants keeps the jawbone stimulated so it can properly support the facial structures. Filling these gaps and spaces also reduces the risk of gum disease and other dental health issues caused by missing teeth.

Replace a Full Set of Teeth with Dental Implants
The result of a dental implant procedure is a natural-looking fixed restoration. Implant supported appliances: The photos below show how implants can help replace a full set of teeth. Sometimes when teeth are compromised and need to be removed, they can be replaced with fixed appliances such as these. The day this gentleman’s teeth were removed, he left with a fixed appliance or “teeth in a day”. After a three-month period of healing, we constructed the final restoration for him. He is really happy, he lost weight and stopped smoking! He is much healthier overall following his dental implant procedure.
